‘Freeing the Body’ - A Yoga and Somatics Workshop

 The normal perception of our ageing process is that we will gradually become stiffer and less mobile with the onset of time.  This gradual change can be due to a number of factors including accident, trauma and ill health.  However, one of the biggest protagonists is directly due to the slow on-set of postural changes, that can appear so gradually that they go unnoticed but can result in chronically contracted muscles, that cause both pain and a gradual decline in overall health. 

 The good news however, is that since we are all designed to be self-aware, self-sensing and self moving we are also capable of achieving great changes in our own bodies, given the right tools to be able to do so. 

Somatics is derived from ’soma’  (Greek) meaning - ‘Living body’ and in this context represents the ability to sense from the inside of our own unique bodies as opposed to, the more common,  external view that we usually hold of our selves.  

During this gentle, floor based practice we will be exploring small defined movements, that can create appropriate changes from within.  Overtime and with regular practice it is possible to free the body from longterm contacted patterns that may have been the cause of chronic discomfort or pain. 

It is important to remain warm during the movements so please bring layers of warm clothing that make it easy for you to move.
